Sunrise from Tallac last week

Powder Report

This week will be similar to last with cold mornings and warmer days. Anything not groomed—outside of East-facing aspects like Mott/Killebrew—will likely need until late morning to soften up. So, start your day on the NV side, work your way over to the CA side, and use this as a chance to dial in your carving technique.

And now for the longer term forecast…are you sitting down?

Chances for a big storm anytime before mid-February are very low. One model shows light precipitation is possible this Wed-Thu, but nothing meaningful. Otherwise we’re looking at the 3rd week of February as the next chance for a storm. And honestly, that's less of a forecast and more of a hope based on model uncertainty.

Season Snowpack Trend at Heavenly

Need a silver lining? At least those January storms set us up with decent coverage and nearly full terrain access. Sure, snowpack is below average, but it could be a lot worse!

Local Flavor

Last week, we visited Cascade Kitchens, a food hall with just about every option under the sun. I can personally vouch for Taste of Colombia, but I’ve also heard great things about the other cuisines they offer—Korean, Mexican, Italian, American, and more—even a juice bar and bakery! And for how little they’ve seemed to advertise, it was a full house of happy diners!

Around Town

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) is updating its regional forest health and wildfire protection goals and they’re asking locals to weigh in. After 100+ years of logging and fire suppression left our forests overly dense, land managers have already treated over 100,000 acres to reduce fuels and improve safety, with thousands more acres planned near communities and evacuation routes.

TRPA says new, science-based benchmarks are needed as wildfire risks grow and climate conditions change. The proposed goals focus on healthier forest structure and reducing wildfire severity, especially in neighborhoods and along key escape routes. Here’s an overview of the goals, where you’ll also have the chance to provide feedback

Just for Fun

Set your alarms! The second stop of the Freeride World Tour is going down in Val Thorens, France, tomorrow morning. The snowboard men and women will be dropping at 3:15am local, but ski women and ski men should be dropping closer to 6-7am, a perfect pairing for your morning coffee. If you’ve never tuned in, it’s truly electric—think huge sends and exposed lines. We even have a few Tahoe locals competing!

Thanks for being part of the Scoop community! Your feedback helps shape what we cover each week, so don't hesitate to reply with suggestions of topics you’d like to see in the future. See you next Sunday!
